City Winery Philadelphia presents Ladies First: An Evening with Female Fronted Bands feat Gemtarra, Maggie Mae, Roxy Rollz, Sylvia Platypus live on January 6th at 7:30pm

The word Gemtarra is derived from two Italian words: gemelli which means twins and chitarra which means guitar. From Philadelphia Gemtarra is a female driven alternative rock/pop band with a punk edge. The band was formed by twin sister’s Gina and Tina. In 2020, Gemtarra released their debut EP, Fired Up. Recorded at the legendary studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA the band worked with Grammy award winning producer/engineer Phil Nicolo on the four tracks. The band is continuing to evolve with an exciting new line-up featuring Anastacia on lead vocals, Bryan on bass, Katie on Drums and Gina and Tina on guitars.

Maggie Mae is the Queen of funky female-fronted folk, soul, and rock & roll and a Philadelphia-based force to reckoned with. Combining genuine, heartfelt lyrics with catchy, cutting guitar riffs, her songs can either touch your soul or make you want to get up and dance. She has been described as “poppy, polished, talented, & promising,” by XPN’s The Key’s John Vettese, and been noted for her ability to effortlessly blend genres, her bands' tight musicianship, and their innovative covers (The Jamwich, 2019). Maggie Mae, whose strengths include "knowing how to blend an acoustic feeling with a big band sound," (Philly Live, 2020) has shared bills with the likes of Soulive, The Heavy Pets, Dawg Yawp, Lohai, Lee Rocker, Danielle Nicole, and more at many of Philly and New Jersey’s premiere music venues. October 2020 marked the release of the band's first fully produced single, 'Hometown,' which was recorded at Rittenhouse Soundworks with Michael Cumming engineering and Robby Webb producing. In late 2021, after successfully raising $12,000 via IndieGogo, Maggie began working hard in the studio with Robby Webb to produce the band's first full-length album. She plans to release the album, "Welcome to the Party!" by 2024.

Hailing from greater Philadelphia, Roxy Rollz blends a powerful mix of rock & avant-garde synth pop with a punk attitude.

If Edith Piaf partied with the Yardbirds on a windswept moor, the result might sound something like Sylvia Platypus. Sylvia Platypus is Philadelphia's (and possibly the world's) only psycho-celtic glam-blues band. Take the distinctive vocals and unusual poetic sensibility of Janet Bressler, add the soul-searing lead guitar work of Bill Barone (formerly of the 1970's era German symphonic rock band Wallenstein), the solid rhythmic foundation of Ruchama Bilenky (bass) and Quirky Tom Theurer (drums) and throw in some wailing highland and uilleann piping from Charlie Rutan ("the Eddie Van Halen of bagpipes"*) and you have an original sonic signature that rattles the cage of "genre".
